Little Free Pantries

Little Free Pantries grew out of the Little Free Library movement - small stand alone structures in people’s front yards or boulevards that are communally filled with non perishable foods. The approach is come one, come all! Share what you have, take what you need.

Right now there are more than 200,000 registered Little Free Libraries but only 1,800 registered Little Free Pantries. Converting little libraries to little free pantries in this time of food insecurity can help build community and allow more people to share what they have with local folks in need.

Converting A Little Free Library to a Little Free Pantry

  1. Remove the Books from your Little Free Library

You can store them until this time of food insecurity is over, or donate them to a local Goodwill or a public library book sale.

  2. Update your signage.

Create a label for your new Little Free Pantry - could even include just a little piece of tape that says “Pantry!” or a printable (here) that you can tape to the inside of your new pantry’s window. You can find downloadable guides for your Little Free Pantry here to include in your box.

  3. Add Non Perishable Foods

Any non perishable foods (canned, boxed) or supplies like soap, tampons, shampoo, etc.

  4. List it on the Little Free Pantry Website

Add your pantry to the map here.

That’s it!

In this moment, democracy is rebuilt by doing what we can, where we are, with one another. Stand together friends.
